Overview of Overmolded Magnets
Overmolded magnets are magnetic components made by molding rubber, plastic, elastomer, silicone, or another suitable material around one or more permanent magnets or magnetic assemblies.
Instead of using bare magnets alone, the surrounding material can provide surface protection, friction, impact resistance, insulation, positioning features, or a more application-ready structure.
At WZ Magnetics, overmolded magnets are not limited to one fixed material or process. Depending on the working environment and the required function, permanent magnets or magnetic assemblies can be integrated with rubber, plastic, elastomer, silicone, or other suitable materials.
The goal is to make the finished magnetic parts easier to install, safer to use, and better matched to real application conditions.

When the Surrounding Material Matters?
Overmolded magnets become valuable when bare magnets alone cannot meet the practical requirements of the application. In many projects, magnetic force is only one part of the design. The finished part may also need to protect the contact surface, increase friction, reduce impact, resist moisture, improve handling, or provide a more stable installation structure.
The surrounding material is not just a protective cover. It can influence how the magnetic part contacts steel surfaces, how easily it can be repositioned, and how well it performs during repeated use. For applications involving temporary fixing, equipment mounting, cable holding, signage installation, or maintenance work, these details often determine whether the part is convenient and reliable in daily operation.
This is why overmolded magnets are often selected when the working surface cannot be scratched, when direct metal-to-metal contact is not ideal, or when the magnetic part needs a safer and more application-ready structure. Instead of using exposed magnets, the overmolded design helps turn one or more permanent magnets or magnetic assemblies into a finished component that is easier to install, remove, and use in real working conditions.
Custom Support for Overmolded Magnetic Parts
Custom overmolded magnets often start from a practical problem rather than a standard product specification. The customer may need a magnetic part that can hold firmly, protect the contact surface, fit into a limited space, resist repeated handling, or work reliably in a specific environment.
During development, several factors need to be considered together. These include the required holding force, magnet grade, magnetic assembly structure, overmolded part geometry, contact surface, working temperature, environmental exposure, installation method, and expected service conditions.
Common issues such as insufficient holding force, poor surface contact, material cracking, rubber aging, dimensional deviation, or weak bonding between the magnet and surrounding material are often related to early design decisions. For this reason, the structure of the magnetic part should be evaluated together with the application conditions, not only by magnet size or magnetic grade.
WZ Magnetics supports customers from concept discussion to sample development and production. Based on drawings, application details, or functional requirements, we help evaluate the magnetic design, surrounding structure, material selection, molding feasibility, and possible production risks before the project moves forward.
