Technological Advancements
Since the discovery of NdFeB magnets in 1983, the field of permanent magnets has seen remarkable technological advancements. By the early 2000s, manufacturers could produce magnets like the N50, and today, high-performance N54 magnets are readily available in the market. These advancements have transitioned from experimental stages to being widely used in commercial applications.
Manufacturing Innovations
What makes these high-performance magnets possible? Engineers have conducted extensive research, experimenting with various element combinations such as Nd, Fe, Al, Cu, Dy, Ce, Td, Gd, and Ho to perfect the magnetic formulas. Over the past decade, advancements in manufacturing technologies, such as improved melting furnaces and strip casting processes, have made these formulas more uniform. This improvement in manufacturing has led to better crystal orientation and consistent microstructures in the magnets, preventing unwanted impurities and enhancing the fineness and uniformity of the magnetic powders. Continuous automation in pressing and multi-chamber sintering ovens, coupled with nitrogen protection during production, has significantly improved magnet performance and stability.
Impact on Magnetic Circuit Design
The evolution in magnet technology has also greatly enhanced the design and efficiency of magnetic circuits. If we do not keep up with these advancements, we risk missing out on significant technological benefits that go beyond mere efficiency improvements. The impact of these magnets is profound, offering major enhancements similar to revolutionary changes described in popular science fiction.
All permanent magnets on Earth have magnetic fields that flow from the South pole to the North pole, similar to the flow of direct current from positive to negative. By using ferromagnetic materials to guide the magnetic field, creating a loop with the North pole, the strength of the South pole’s magnetic field can be increased three to five times, not just by 30-50%. This is akin to how voltage is increased in AC electrical systems for specific applications.
Before NdFeB magnets were invented, the strongest ferrite magnets had a maximum magnetic energy product of 5 MGOe. Since the development of NdFeB, this figure has increased dramatically to 35 MGOe. Over forty years, commercial NdFeB magnets have achieved energy products between 52-55 MGOe, reaching 84% of their theoretical maximum of 64 MGOe.

Practical Applications in Heavy Industry
As steel ships once replaced wooden ones and steam power took over sails, new materials and processes have allowed humans to navigate the seas more effectively. Numerous technological advancements have collectively shaped what we know as the modern “economy,” which evolves with these technologies and decides which new innovations will be embraced. Each new technological solution introduces new challenges that must be addressed, continuously evolving our economic landscape.

Large steel structures such as steel ships, offshore platforms, large thermal power stations, nuclear power plant boilers, Oil & Gas Industry and Offshore wind projects must meet rigorous Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) standards, overcome corrosion, and keep installation costs low. Utilizing high-suction rubber-coated permanent magnetic assemblies can meet these demands.
WZ Magnetics’ rubber-coated products, which have passed tests including 2160 hours of salt spray, 1000 hours of UV exposure, and C5 marine requirements, closely meet these criteria. Employing magnetic attachments can reduce potential quality issues that arise during welding installations, such as cracks, voids, uneven weld beads, misalignment, and insufficient weld strength. Despite the high integration level of large projects, considerable on-site installation work such as fastening, linking, and suspension still requires manual labor. Offshore operations are particularly costly, with labor costs 5 to 10 times higher than onshore, pushing the industry to adopt more advanced fastening methods and tools to manage cost pressures and meet delivery deadlines.

Product Range and Customization
The Rectangle Shape Magnets Blue-8 and Black-7 series, among other products, have substantially simplified onsite installation by reducing the need for welding and drilling, thus preserving the structural integrity of steel constructions, preventing rust, and maintaining strength and durability. As each project has unique requirements, we encourage potential clients to discuss with our sales team to explore the most suitable products and safety assurances for their specific needs.
